How we first met
Kevin and Jill first met in 2001 on Tropical Storm Allison. Jill was working at FEMA Headquarters as an intern and was deployed to Houston, Texas to help with disaster operations. At that time, Kevin was working at FEMA Region 1 in Boston and was deployed to Texas to serve as the Chief of Staff. They were introduced to each other by Lou Botta who was serving as the Federal Coordinating Officer for the disaster. They all hung out several times as a group but both Kevin and Jill were too shy to let the other one know they were interested.
And it was left at that.
As luck would have it, Kevin and Jill ran into each other again at a FEMA Headquarters conference in April of 2005. They both exchanged greetings and spent a few minutes catching-up but in the end, timing wasn’t good and the visit was short.
Four months later, Kevin and Jill were deployed again when Hurricane Katrina hit in late August of 2005. While the disaster was horrific and the grueling long days took a toll mentally, physically and emotionally, the silver lining was they were in the same place again…and this time they decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, Kevin was called back to Headquarters just before Christmas and Jill had to stay in Louisiana for another four and a half months. However, they both understood major decisions would have to be made about the future and in the end…the Third Time Was a Charm!! ?
In May 2006, Jill decided to give her notice to FEMA Region 6 and sold her house to move to Virginia to start another job. After a little over 2 years of dating, Kevin unexpectedly asked Jill to marry him on Friday evening, February 8, 2008, at Snowshoe.
